For dealership staff, compliance managers, and CRM vendors running an SMS enablement.
The SMS consent checkbox
Overfuel provides the text-message consent control on your lead forms. It is not a field inside each individual form — the platform adds it, so it appears consistently on any form that collects a phone number. You won't find it in a form's field list, and you don't need to add it form by form.
Two modes are available:
- Transactional consent only — a single checkbox.
- Transactional plus marketing — two checkboxes, where the marketing one is optional. This is the layout most CRM and carrier onboarding programmes ask for.
The wording is fully customisable, which is what you need when a carrier review requires specific language.
Getting through a carrier or CRM review
If your CRM is onboarding you to SMS — a Cox/VinSolutions Twilio enablement, for example — the review typically expects all of this:
- A compliant opt-in disclaimer on your contact form, covering message frequency, that message and data rates may apply, STOP and HELP instructions, and that consent is not a condition of purchase
- Links from that disclaimer to your Privacy Policy and SMS Terms of Service
- An SMS Terms of Service page that actually exists and resolves
We can set all of this up. Send us the exact disclaimer wording your carrier or CRM requires — don't paraphrase it, because reviews are usually checked against the template. If you don't have an SMS Terms of Service page yet, say so and we'll build one from the standard structure.
⏱️ Build in time. Carrier review commonly runs several weeks, and a rejection restarts it. Get the disclaimer and the terms page in place before you submit, rather than after a rejection.
⚠️ "Our leads are getting texted without consent"
The first question is who is sending the text, and it's very often not the website.
Every lead we send carries the consent answers with it — whether each box was ticked, and the shopper's stated contact preference. Any tool consuming your leads can therefore see consent status and act on it.
In practice these reports usually trace to a third-party AI or CRM tool that is texting off the phone number in the lead without checking the consent flags. If that's what's happening, changing the checkbox on the website will not stop it — the fix is in the tool that's sending. Ask your vendor whether they read the consent fields and gate on them.
What we can do is confirm the consent data is present and correct in what we send you, so your vendor has no excuse. Ask us and we'll verify it against a specific lead.
Other disclaimers on your site
Separate from SMS consent, your site carries several pieces of standing legal text you can maintain yourself:
- Finance disclaimer — shown with payment calculators and finance modules
- Inventory disclaimer — shown with pricing
- Price disclaimers — the fine print attached to price rows on vehicle pages
The finance and inventory disclaimers are editable in your dealer portal settings and have their own help articles. Price-row disclaimers vary with how your price is built — send us the exact wording and where it should appear.
? Pricing disclosure is where we see compliance risk most often. If your advertised price excludes fees you're required to disclose, or shows a discount against a price you never actually charged, that's worth a conversation before a regulator or a customer raises it. Tell us what your state requires and we'll tell you what your site is currently displaying.
What to send Overfuel Support
- Which rooftop(s) — compliance text usually needs to go on all of them
- The exact wording, copied from your carrier, CRM or counsel
- Which forms or pages it must appear on
- Any deadline you're working to, such as a carrier review date
- For a consent complaint: a specific lead (name and time) and the name of the tool doing the texting
Email support@overfuel.com. We can tell you what your site displays today and what we send with your leads; we can't advise on what your obligations are — that's a question for your own counsel.
