How the price on your vehicle pages is built

For dealership staff. Read this before opening a pricing ticket — knowing which layer you are looking at turns a long back-and-forth into a single change.

The price block a shopper sees is not one number from one place. It is built up in layers, each edited somewhere different. That is why two vehicles that look identical can price differently, and why a change in one screen does not always move the number on the page.

The layers, in the order they are applied

  1. The price in your inventory feed. The starting point: price, MSRP and any add-on or upfit amount, exactly as your inventory provider sends them. Everything below is applied on top of this.
  2. Per-vehicle edits. A price typed directly onto a vehicle in the Overfuel IMS. Note that the next import overwrites this unless that column has been locked for you — see the note below.
  3. Pricing Specials. Your discounts and offers (Inventory → Pricing Specials). Each one can be a fixed amount, a percentage, or a set price, and can target specific vehicles by year, make, model, trim, condition, certified status, colour, days on lot, tag or stock number. Specials can also add an amount, which is how some fees end up here rather than in the fees editor.
  4. Inventory Fees. Doc fees, reconditioning, dealer adds (Inventory → Settings → Inventory Fees). Each fee row separately controls whether it also appears on search results, not just the vehicle page.
  5. Manufacturer incentives and rebates. Pulled from the manufacturer's program data and matched to each individual VIN. Matching uses the vehicle's build and option codes, not just the trim name, which is why two similar-looking units on the same lot can qualify for different amounts.
  6. Display settings. Which rows appear, what each row is labelled, the order they appear in, whether savings are grouped or itemised, and which disclaimers attach. These change how the same numbers are presented.
  7. Custom styling. If your site has custom CSS, it can hide or relabel a price row visually even when the underlying configuration is correct.

The questions we get most

"A discount isn't showing." Usually one of three things. The special's targeting rules do not actually match that vehicle. Two specials are competing and only one is set to stack, so only the highest-priority one applies. Or the amount is configured as a fee rather than a special and is displaying somewhere else in the block.

"Search results and the vehicle page show different totals." Expected in some setups. Fees carry a per-row setting for whether they show on search results, and some discounts are configured for the vehicle page only. Tell us which one you want to be authoritative.

"The rebate amount is wrong." Either the manufacturer program data we are matching against has moved on, or the vehicle's option and build codes are not complete enough to pick the right program — base trims with minimal option content frequently do not qualify for the amount advertised on a higher-content unit. Send the VIN and the amount you expect, and tell us where you are seeing the expected figure.

"I typed a price in and it went back overnight." The feed overwrote it. Ask us to lock that column for you and your entry will survive future imports.

"Every vehicle shows a discount, including ones we never discounted." A special with broad targeting is applying fleet-wide. Advertising a discount against a former price you never actually charged carries real compliance exposure, so tell us what the intended rule is and we will scope it.

"There's a fee we need to display for compliance." Send the exact wording and the amount. Disclaimer text, fee labels and where they appear are all configurable.

What to send Overfuel Support

  • VIN or stock number for a specific vehicle that shows the problem
  • The page URL where you see it
  • A screenshot of the price block as it appears today
  • What it should say, line by line — the target price block, not just "it's wrong"
  • Whether it affects one vehicle, one model, or the whole lot

Email support@overfuel.com. A single VIN with a screenshot and a target price block is the fastest pricing ticket we can work.
