10-minute recipe: run a pricing special

For dealership staff who manage pricing. Time: about 10 minutes.

A Pricing Special lets you change or reveal a price on a set of vehicles without touching your inventory feed. You can take $1,500 off every 2025 Silverado, add a "Manager's Special" label to units over 60 days old, or put an "Unlock e-Price" button on new SUVs. Specials show up on your website within about a minute, and you can schedule them to end on their own.

For how Pricing Specials fit with feed prices, fees and incentives, see How the price on your vehicle pages is built.

Before you start: two decisions

1. Do you want to show the price, or have shoppers unlock it?

  • Show it: set Require form fill? to No. The advertised price changes, and a line appears in the price breakdown with the label you choose, for example "Fall Savings −$1,500".
  • Unlock it: set Require form fill? to Yes. Shoppers see a button ("Unlock e-Price" unless you change the text). They get the discounted price after they fill in a short form, and that form arrives as a lead.

2. Which discount type? Getting this wrong is the most common Pricing Specials mistake.

Discount TypeWhat it doesExample
Dollars offTakes the amount off the price$1,500 off
Percentage offTakes a percentage off the price5% off
Fixed AmountSets the price to the amount. It does not take the amount off."Now $24,995"
Price increase / Percentage increaseAdds to the advertised priceAn add-on package rolled into the price
Offset dollars offShows a savings line without lowering the price (the savings are already in it)"Dealer discount −$2,000" when your feed price already includes it
Offset price increaseShows an added-cost line without raising the price (the cost is already in it)An itemised package that's already in the price
Special FinancingShows a rate and term. The price doesn't change.1.9% for 60 months
Conditional DiscountA "you may qualify" offer, such as a military or recent-grad rebate. It shows on vehicle pages only.$500 military rebate

⚠️ "$2,000 off" is Dollars off, not Fixed Amount. A $2,000 Fixed Amount special sets every matching car's price to $2,000.

Steps

  1. Log in to dealers.overfuel.com. Click Inventory, then Pricing Specials.
  2. If you have more than one rooftop, choose the right one under Manage for. Then click + Add Special.
  3. Fill in the top section:
    • Title is for your team. Shoppers don't see it.
    • Require form fill? Choose No or Yes, as described above. Don't leave it on "Select…", because that saves as an unlock special.
    • Discount Type and Amount.
    • Discount Label is what shoppers see in the price breakdown. It's required when Require form fill? is No.
    • Stackable? and Priority — see Running more than one special below.
    • Position: leave this on Above the sale price for discounts. Below the sale price is for fees that shouldn't change the advertised price.
  4. Under Vehicle Selection, choose which cars the special applies to. You can filter by condition, certified, year, make, model, trim, body style, colour, stock number, tag, or days in stock. Every filter you fill in must match, and a filter you leave blank matches everything. Keep an eye on the count: "N vehicles match your criteria."
  5. Under Schedule & Disclaimer:
    • Set a Start date and an End date.
    • Always fill in the Disclaimer. Shoppers see it when they tap the "?" next to the price line, and for unlock specials it appears in the email the shopper receives. If you leave it blank, a generic disclaimer is used, and it may not match how you price (for example, if your prices include the doc fee).
  6. Set Status to Published. New specials start as Draft, and a draft does nothing.
  7. Click Save.

Check it worked

Wait a minute, then open one of the matching vehicles in a private window. Check the price, the label, and the "?" disclaimer on both the search results and the vehicle page. For an unlock special, a private window matters even more. Once you've unlocked a price in your normal browser, that browser keeps showing it unlocked.

Running more than one special

  • Priority: higher numbers are applied first.
  • Stackable? = Yes lets a special combine with the others.
  • Stackable? = No stops the chain. A non-stackable special applies, and every special with a lower priority is ignored. Stackable defaults to No.

If two specials should both show on the same car, for example a discount and a package, set Stackable? = Yes on both.

Common gotchas

  • "New OR certified" needs two specials. Every filter must match, so one special can't target either one.
  • Days in stock: fill in Min. days in stock. Max. on its own has no effect. The matching count doesn't take days in stock into account, so it may show more vehicles than will actually get the special.
  • Typing a Model Number hides the other filters, but anything you'd already entered in them still applies. Clear the other filters before you switch to targeting by model number.
  • Choose one exterior colour per special. If you need several colours, duplicate the special.
  • A vehicle with no price (or $10 or less) can't show a special. It shows your call-for-price treatment instead.
  • Only advertise a real discount. A "discount" on every car from a price nobody was ever charged can create a compliance problem. Use specials for offers you'll honour.

Ending a special

  • End date: the special applies through the end of that day, then stops by itself. It stays in your list so you can duplicate it next month.
  • Pause (the pause icon) takes it down immediately and moves it back to Draft. Use the play icon to turn it back on.
  • Duplicate copies it as a Draft. This is the quickest way to set up next month's version.
  • Delete removes it. Only users with manage permission can delete.

What to send Overfuel Support

  • The special's Title and which rooftop
  • A vehicle URL where it should (or shouldn't) be showing
  • What you expected to see, and what you see
  • A screenshot of the special's settings
