Banners on your site: persistent, slides and offer banners

For dealership staff and marketing managers.

"Banner" gets used for three different things on an Overfuel site. Naming the right one in your request is most of the work, because they're built in different places and have different rules.

What you meanWhat it is
Persistent banner (also called a pencil banner or alert bar)The thin strip that sits at the very top of every page — holiday hours, a storm closure, a limited-time event.
Homepage slideThe large rotating images in the carousel at the top of your homepage. These you can edit yourself.
Offer / promo bannerA promotional graphic linking to a specials page or a filtered set of vehicles.

If you want the rotating images on your homepage, see the separate article on adding slides — that one is self-serve. The rest of this article covers the other two.

Persistent banners

These are set up by us, and they can do more than most dealers realise:

  • Start and end dates — a banner can switch itself on and off, so a holiday-hours notice doesn't need anyone to remember to remove it.
  • Page targeting — site-wide, or only on specific pages.
  • Several at once, with priority deciding which one wins when more than one applies.
  • A link, so the banner clicks through to a page or a filtered inventory view.

? Schedule them in advance. Because banners take start and end dates, you can send us your holiday closures for the whole year in one ticket, and each will appear and disappear on its own. This is the single most underused thing about them.

⚠️ Persistent banners are not available on custom search-results pages. If your site has a custom-built SRP, a banner can't be placed on it — tell us what you're trying to achieve and we'll suggest an alternative.

Offer and promo banners

These are image-based, so there are two paths depending on whether the artwork exists:

  • You have the artwork — send it with the link destination and we'll place it.
  • You need it designed — say so. Our creative team builds these, which adds time, so give as much lead time as you can before a campaign date.

⚠️ "The offer is approved but it isn't on the homepage." Homepage promo banners are placed by category, and one saved without a category is live but invisible. It is the most common cause, and a quick fix — just mention it when you write in.

Supply a mobile version of the artwork where you can. If you don't, the desktop image is used on phones, and wide banners with small text rarely survive that.

What to send Overfuel Support

For a persistent banner:

  • The exact text, written as it should read
  • Where it links to, if anywhere
  • Start and end dates
  • Site-wide, or only on certain pages
  • Which rooftop(s) — and be explicit, because banners on a group are a common source of "why is this showing on our other store's site"

For an offer or promo banner:

  • The artwork (desktop and mobile), or a request for design with the offer details
  • The link destination
  • Where it should appear — homepage, a specials page, or both
  • The category it belongs to, if it's going on the homepage
  • Any expiry date

Email support@overfuel.com. If a banner needs to be live for a specific date, say the date in the first message — it changes how we queue it.
